Adoption verdict: if you are building an AI agent or RAG workflow that must browse, retrieve, and cite sources, AnySearch Skill is worth trying, especially if you want the search-crawl-clean-structure step handled in the backend. That said, it still looks more like promising infrastructure than a broadly proven default choice.

Its practical value is turning web and vertical-source retrieval into structured outputs for agents. Public materials repeatedly claim coverage of 22 vertical databases, plus structured responses, parallel search, and lower token usage because the model does less raw page parsing. Evidence also supports access via Skill, API, and CLI. But it is not a consumer search box, and not a Perplexity-style end-user answer product. A better analogy is an agent-facing retrieval pipeline or online search middleware.

On barriers and cost, the evidence shows developer setup is required, including API keys, CLI, or agent-platform configuration. One media article suggests near-zero-config installation in some agent ecosystems, but that should be read as ecosystem-specific convenience, not universal ease of deployment.
