BrowserOS

BrowserOS is a Chromium-based open-source browser with integrated AI agent capabilities. You can describe a task in natural language, such as “search for a product on Amazon and take a screenshot,” and the browser will autonomously perform clicks, form fills, and multi-page navigation. It can also connect to services like Gmail and Google Calendar, streamlining repetitive online workflows.

It is completely free and open-source, with all browsing data stored locally by default—no cloud sync or telemetry. You can use your own API keys for commercial LLMs or run local models via Ollama, ensuring data never leaves your machine. It remains compatible with Chrome extensions, so the learning curve is shallow.

On the downside, the removal of cloud sync means bookmarks and passwords won’t carry across devices, which may frustrate users accustomed to ecosystems like Chrome Sync. AI agent reliability depends on the underlying model; locally run smaller models may struggle with complex scenarios. Setting up API keys or local models requires some technical know-how. As a relatively young project, its community support and feature completeness still trail commercial alternatives.
