Tool overview
cctop is a lightweight macOS menubar utility designed for developers juggling multiple AI coding sessions. It surfaces all active sessions from supported agents—Claude Code, Claude Desktop, opencode, pi, Codex CLI, Codex Desktop—and displays fine-grained statuses (editing, searching, planning, reviewing, waiting for input/permission) with color cues (orange for waiting, red for errors). A single click jumps to the exact IDE window, eliminating the need to hunt through terminals and editor tabs.
Its keyboard-first design minimizes mouse dependency and context-switching costs. Setup is minimal, and customization covers draggable panels that remember positions across monitors, multiple color themes, adjustable columns, and persistent preferences. Recent versions also clean up stale worktrees. Because all data stays local, privacy is preserved.
The app is macOS-only and depends on the supported CLI-based agents; it will not help if you don’t use those tools. As an early-stage open-source project (v0.x), it may lack comprehensive documentation or enterprise features. It is meant for interactive manual management and not for orchestrating autonomous agent fleets.
