Claude Science is a beta-stage research application by Anthropic that combines Claude’s AI capabilities with over 60 optional scientific databases, on-demand computing resources (from a laptop to hundreds of GPUs), and built-in visualization for molecules and protein structures. Every chart, table, or notebook is traced back to the code and environment that generated it, enabling auditable and reproducible workflows.
Advantages: it integrates tools researchers already use, reduces setup time, and makes computational science more transparent. Remote compute connections route code and data directly to the destination without passing through Anthropic, and built-in annotation supports collaboration.
Drawbacks and risks: as a beta product, administrator governance controls are limited; session data stays on the local machine, but prompts and replies are logged according to Anthropic’s standard policy. HIPAA-protected data should not be used (no BAA in place). Local data is not automatically purged when employees leave, requiring device management. Beta pricing is not disclosed; users must supply their own compute resources.
