For now, forktty is better understood as a Linux-native workspace framework for coding agents, not as a widely validated general-purpose AI coding platform. The current evidence is almost entirely the official GitHub repo description, which supports its positioning and listed components, but does not prove reliability, workflow quality, or maturity for team-scale deployment. Adoption should therefore be cautious: interesting for advanced terminal-first users, but not yet something most teams should treat as a proven standard.

Based on the repo text, it brings together Ghostty terminals, git worktrees, local MCP/socket automation, team orchestration, and prompt-aware notifications. The practical value seems to be a native Linux control surface for running multiple coding agents in parallel with isolated working contexts. It is not a general IDE, and not a hosted agent cloud. A more accurate analogy is an agent orchestration workspace that ties terminal sessions, worktree isolation, and local automation together for code work.

On cost and effort, the evidence only supports that it is available as an open-source repository.
