Tool overview

If you already plan to build on Google’s model stack, Gemini API is worth shortlisting first. But the current evidence supports “high attention and fast iteration” more strongly than “best-in-class usability.” It is not a consumer chatbot app, and not a no-code automation tool; a better comparison is OpenAI API or Anthropic API rather than ChatGPT as an end-user product.

In practical terms, the evidence supports chat completion, production-oriented agent use, multimodal tasks, and processing content from URLs, webpages, PDFs, and images. There is also clear mention of engineering-focused capabilities such as the Batch API. Official X posts mostly signal new model launches and improvements in speed, throughput, and cost positioning, while Zhihu tutorials show that developers are actually applying for keys, making calls, and wiring it into clients or custom apps. What is still missing is a broad set of independent benchmarks and longer-term hands-on reports.

On cost and adoption friction, this is not a plug-and-play office tool: you need an API key, developer integration, and some prompt/system design ability.
