Better evidence for capability comes from the official repo, release posts, and a few user reports after updating to 0.11 that mention improved longitudinal control and model behavior. From the available sources, it is fair to say openpilot is a real, actively used open-source ADAS/robotics stack, not a casual plug-and-play consumer app.

What it actually does is often misunderstood. It is not “software that turns any car into full self-driving.” A more accurate analogy is an open-source driver-assistance upgrade for certain compatible cars, and a reusable perception/control stack that some builders adapt to RC cars or rovers. The official repo says it supports 300+ cars, while community posts mention 325+ vehicles.
