From an adoption standpoint, OpenSpec has clearly gained attention: the GitHub star count is strong, and discussion on X and Zhihu is sustained, so the heat signal is real. But usability proof is narrower. The strongest evidence comes from the official repository plus a small number of hands-on writeups and comparison articles. A conservative read is that this is an actively tried workflow framework, not yet a universally validated engineering standard.
Its practical value is not that it writes an entire product for you, and it is not a general IDE or standalone coding agent. It adds a spec-first layer around AI coding. Across the evidence, the recurring stages are propose, spec, design, tasks, and archive. The concrete outputs are structured change proposals, acceptance-style scenarios, technical design notes, task breakdowns, and implementation records. A better analogy is a workflow scaffold for Claude Code, Cursor, or other coding agents, rather than a model competing with them.
The main barrier is process discipline, not confirmed purchase cost.
