So the safest judgment is that it may be useful for quick reference, but there is not enough evidence to claim strong accuracy.
Its practical function is straightforward: paste in a paper or passage and get an overall AI likelihood plus token- or word-level highlighting, which can help students spot phrasing that looks “AI-like” before submission. It is not a plagiarism checker, not a writing assistant, and not a substitute for database-driven systems like Turnitin. A more accurate comparison is GPTZero or Sapling-style AI text detectors, with a stronger tilt toward student essay self-screening.
