Tool overview
This open‑source project, initiated by Kenta Kuzuhara, adapts Google’s DESIGN.md pattern for Japanese needs. It gathers visual design rules from about 24 well‑known Japanese services—including Apple Japan, MUJI, LINE, Mercari, and note—described in a format that AI agents such as Cursor or VoltAgent can read directly from the repository root.
The core function is to inject proper CJK typography when AI generates Japanese UI: line‑height is set to 1.7–2.0 rather than Western defaults, letter‑spacing is adjusted to 0.04–0.1 em, appropriate Japanese fonts are specified, and punctuation rendering is preserved. By copying a DESIGN.md into a project, developers and designers can quickly obtain brand‑consistent prototypes without manual tweaking of visual details.
Advantages include zero cost, simple integration (just a text file), and immediate improvement for Vibe Coding workflows. Limitations are the modest sample size (approximately 24 records) and the lack of evidence on long‑term maintenance—the GitHub repository currently shows zero stars, and no update cadence is confirmed. Brands that are not included require users to create their own DESIGN.
